Internet Mail Version (POP3) Setup
Below are the directions to setup Outlook to receive your
CCIS e-mail. These steps should be used after installing Outlook 2002 or
Office XP.
| To begin, you need to get into the Outlook
properties. To do this, locate the Microsoft Outlook
icon on your desktop and right click on it. A menu will pop up
similar to the one to the right. Click on Properties. |
 |
| Click on the Show Profiles button. |
 |
| This screen shows the different profiles
configured on your machine. You may already have a profile installed automatically by
Windows. You can ignore this. You want to click on the Add button to begin to create a new profile. |
 |
| Outlook will now ask you to give the profile a name.
Type your first initial and last name here and click OK. |
 |
| Click Add a new e-mail account
and then Next. |
 |
| Select the POP3 button and click Next. |
 |
| Fill out the information as shown to the
right. Your mail server will most likely be mail.centralcomm.net, however if you have your own domain enter it in the incoming and outgoing mail servers. For the Account name, you need to enter
your e-mail account user name (the text before the @ sign in your e-mail
address). In this window, you will have to fill out the
information about your e-mail account. Then Click on More Settings. |
 |
| In this window, you may wish to enter a
different reply E-mail address, if not, leave it as your default E-mail
address. When you are done, click on the Advanced tab. |
 |
| In this tab, make sure your settings
match those pictured in the example. Click OK. This will
return you to your main settings window. Click the Test
Account Settings button. |
 |
| If some errors occur, there probably
is something improperly configured in your settings. Check them over
for mistakes such as typos and then try the test again. If errors
still occur, contact the helpdesk. Ideally, the test window should
appear as it does in the example on the right. Click Close, OK, and then
Next. |
 |
| When all the settings have been
entered, and the test completed, this window will appear alerting you that
your account has finished being set up. Click Finish. |
 |
| When you are returned to this window,
make sure the button, Always use this profile is selected and
the name of the new profile, (jdoe in this example), is shown in the field
at the bottom of the window. Click OK. |
 |
The first time you run Outlook, you may be prompted to setup
Outlook again
through a wizard. You will want to just skip through this. At the screen
that asks you if you have used Outlook before, click No. At the screen
that asks which information service you want to use, click on Internet
Only and click Next. This should take you into Outlook and you can
begin.
